Get up and running with systemprompt.io in five steps.
Prerequisites
- A systemprompt.io account — register here
- Claude Desktop (with Cowork)
Step 1: Whitelist systemprompt.io
Add systemprompt.io to your domain allowlist so Claude can reach the Skill Manager MCP server.
- Open Claude Desktop settings
- Go to Capabilities
- Under "Code execution and file creation", enable Allow network egress
- Set Domain allowlist to Package managers only
- Under Additional allowed domains, add:
systemprompt.io*.systemprompt.io
Step 2: Add MCP connector
Add a custom connector pointing to the Skill Manager MCP endpoint. This gives Claude access to your skills, agents, and plugins through the Model Context Protocol.
- Open Claude Desktop settings
- Go to Connectors
- Click Add custom connector
- Enter name:
Skill manager - Enter Remote MCP server URL:
https://systemprompt.io/api/v1/mcp/skill-manager/mcp
- Click Add
Step 3: Add global instructions
Add the following text to your Cowork global instructions in settings. This ensures Claude always uses the MCP server for managing skills, plugins, and agents.
We use systemprompt mcp skills to manage all skills, plugins and agents. Always use the MCP server for CRUD operations to ensure complete consistency.
- Open Claude Desktop settings
- Go to Cowork
- Find the global instructions field
- Paste the text above
- Save settings
Step 4: Export and import plugin
Export the systemprompt.io plugin as a ZIP and import it into Claude Desktop.
- Log in to your systemprompt.io dashboard
- Go to My Marketplace
- Click View on the systemprompt.io plugin
- Click Export ZIP to download
- In Claude Desktop, go to Settings > Plugins > Import
- Upload the ZIP file
Step 5: Run /onboarding
With everything connected, open Claude Cowork and type:
/onboarding
The onboarding assistant guides you through a discovery interview about your business. It asks about your workflows, brand voice, and processes, then creates personalized AI skills tailored to your needs.
No YAML, no config files, no technical knowledge required — just answer the questions and the assistant builds everything for you.
What happens next?
After onboarding, you will have:
- Skills tailored to your business processes and brand voice
- Agents configured for your specific workflows
- A visual dashboard at systemprompt.io to manage and refine everything
All skills sync automatically between the dashboard and Claude. Edit a skill in the browser and it is available in Claude immediately.
Troubleshooting
- MCP connection fails — Verify the endpoint URL is correct and that systemprompt.io is in your domain allowlist
- Plugin import fails — Try exporting the ZIP again from My Marketplace; ensure you have a Pro or Team plan
- /onboarding not found — Confirm the plugin was imported successfully; the onboarding skill is bundled with the plugin
